My sensory diary is a selection of pieces representing significant moments of my personal journey of well-being while working with a visual journal as a tool for art therapy. The artworks are spread over two sketchbooks and originated between July 2022 and January 2023. I dedicated my dissertation for my Bachelor degree in illustration to this topic.
I see the sensory diary as a place for all my emotions and things that are on my mind. My proposal is to try visual journaling as a tool for self-help and take it as an opportunity to spend time with ourselves, to pause and listen to our emotions, and thoughts and take the time to process and express ourselves by creating art. If it does not appeal to you, or you do not find enjoyment or relief in the process, it might not be the tool for you. Take the pressure off, and journal when it feels right for you, however often and long you need for. It is about finding the balance of what works for you.
